July 4th...

Since 1916

the world's most famous hot dog eating contest is held on Independence Day in the United States

According to legend…
on July 4, 1916,
four immigrants were arguing about
who was the most patriotic.

They settled the dispute with a hot dog eating contest.

And so began the yearly tradition.

Last year over 40,000 spectators attended the event at
Coney Island, and an additional 1.677 million
viewers watched it live on ESPN

Last year’s winner consumed 54 hot dogs
and buns in 10 minutes
and was crowned with the coveted international
"bejeweled" mustard-yellow belt

So fire up the grill...

loosen your belt  for some hot dogs...

save room for dessert...

And enjoy the fireworks!

it's just embroidery, have fun with it!

I hate to think what happened on the 55th hot dog.

These contests fail to recognise just how much can be tucked away with a sliver of this and a forkful of that over the course of a day. Where's that contest?

The contest is held at Coney Island, Brooklyn NY and sponsored by Nathan's Hot Dogs every 4th of July. And I'm with you Tricia, I would not want to around for any 'reversals of fortune'!

Hi Cathy this former Brooklyn gal who lived ten minutes away never even ate at the Nathan's! Maybe once when I was a small child. I can't watch it on TV, it bothers me. I love your 4th of July table, napkins and the cupcakes on skewers is brilliant!! xo,

Thats a lot of hotdogs! I don't think I would get very far in that contest! Well done on the napkin - the fireworks are amazing! How did you do that? Happy 4th!

Don't think I could manage that many hot dogs in a month let alone a day.
You are SO very talented Cathy, the firework design is fab.

It's interesting how that tradition got started. I can't even remember when the last time I ate a hotdog was.

Wow - not quite sure why anyone would WANT to eat that many hot dogs but I guess that's the Y chromosome competitive edge for you! Loving your fireworks!!

Oh my goodness!! I can't believe the winner ate so much!! They must have had to lie down for a week after that!!

But I do love hot dogs though!! I'd definitely be up for a stab at that!
