tulip mania.....

17th century Netherlands

tulip demands created enormous price peaks

a single tulip bulb could be sold for:

four tons of wheat
eight tons of rye
one bed
four oxen
eight pigs
12 sheep
one suit of clothes
two casks of wine
four tons of beer
two tons of butter
1,000 pounds of cheese
or
one silver drinking cup

would you keep your tulip?

or...

trade for one of those items listed above?

it's just embroidery, have fun with it!

Cathy, while you were leaving me a comment I was over here. Too funny. I love tulips, but I would absolutely have to trade, probably for the cheese :) I agree about flowers brightening up the home. xo

Tulips are my favorite flower of all. I especially love the white ones. I would definitely trade my tulip for the one above. So lovely, as usual.

I'm afraid that silver cup would be mine! ;) Though I do love tulips!! Beautiful work, as always, Cathy. blessings ~ Tanna

I LOVE tulips, but I'd make the trade. They don't last that long once cut. I'm a big fan of the home depot $14 bags personally. And, this year I bought them in Dec at half price and was planting them the week before christmas. Fingers crossed they bloom!

Best,
Julie

I thought for sure you were going to embroider a tulip! I'd take a picture of the tulip and then trade it for the cheese.

Sorry to say I would trade the tulip.

I'd trade. Tulips fade far too fast.

That monogram would be perfect for Elizabeth at Pretty Pink Tulips! Amazing what these little beauties were worth and I complain when I spend more than $5 at the grocery store...

Cathy,
You have to know how much I love this!!!

I KNEW they were special...but this is just mind blowing! I have to laugh what I might have traded for my front flower beds each Spring!

Love that monogram!

Cathy,
You have to know how much I love this!! I was showing this to my husband and he says," Oh, yeah...didn't you know about the tulip bulb bubble? It was the first "bubble" back in the 1630s." How does he know this and I don't?!!!

Anyway....that is a fabulous monogram. I love the little hot pink dot detail! Hmmmm.....I'm thinking I need to order a cute gardening bag with a PPT similar to that. What do you think? :)

Perfectly pink and pretty. I'd trade my last tulip for a bowl of chips and salsa. What? That wasn't on the list? :). xoxo

Back then, I would've kept my sheep. I'm practical that way. :-)

I guess I'm a
trader, 'cause I'd
be all over that
silver cup : )

Sweet mono, as
always, Cathy!

I love tulips! They are one of the first flowers I see in the supermarket in the spring and they come home with me to brighten my house while I'm waiting for it to be spring outside!!!!
Gorgeous embroidery!
