gunpowder, rum and tattoos...

warning...do NOT try this at home
Arrrrrgh

St. Augustine March 2011

Pirates added gunpowder to rum as a proof test.
If the gunpowder and rum mixture did not ignite,
it was under proof—watered down rum.
Arrrrrgh

Blackbeard the Pirate is the most famous consumer of gunpowder rum.
Gunpowder and rum were also used by pirates to create tattoos.
Arrrrrgh

Nowadays it’s safer to stick with
Captain Morgan’s Tattoo brand rum...
and a monogrammed tattoo in thread

Disclaimer…
I don’t imbibe Captain Morgan’s while thread tattooing

The only Captain I crave these days is Captin Crunch... how sad is that! :)

I think a little Captain after stitching would be alright. I much prefer your tattoo's than the other kind. Just saying...
Best,

Give me your tattoos any time - rum induced or not. Far more versatile than the body variety - you can wear a new one every day.

Well, ahoy there matey! A little rum after tatooing, I mean stitching, sounds pretty good. Rum based drinks are a favorite in our town in the summer!

Now, walk the plank!

In the movie Hook, Julia Roberts (why can't I remember the character name?) tells Robin Williams to glare with his good eye, drool and growl. When he growls, it sounds like arrgh and he and the pirate walking towards him exchange "Fine! How are you?" I love that line and wanted to growl back arrrgggh. I saw a comment and your "stitchfork" on Sheltering Tree, I think it was. Had to come by and check it out. Good post! Thanks. no arggggh Jenn

As you know, I love all things nautical. Especially a drunken sailor. Just Kidding. As always a lovely design.
